Guidelines for the Use of Mobile Phones
To foster meaningful connections and maintain a focused learning environment, mobile phone use is limited to 1–2 hours per day.

Devices may only be used during designated free time, after the final activity of the day and before lights-out (typically between 8:30pm and 10:30pm.

Devices will be stored and kept by the Dormitory Officers and Portal Staff when not in use.

Students may only bring one mobile phone to the camp. Bringing additional devices to circumvent this policy will be considered an act of disrespect and a major violation, resulting in disciplinary action.

Students may approach a member of the Portal staff should they have an emergency which they need to call their parents or guardian at any time.
Health & Safety Protocols
SCENARIO | IF…
1) In Case of Sickness
If the student shows symptoms of fever (above 37.3°C)…
2) If the student shows symptoms of other sickness or injuries but without a fever…
All students, instructors and personnel of the Summer Portal are required to take a body temperature check daily (upon entering the campus, and/or at breakfast for boarders). Those who have a fever are expected to stay/ go home to rest or seek medical attention, and are strictly not allowed to participate in any Portal activities. Others who have mild flu-like symptoms, but with a negative flu/Covid test result and without a fever, may continue to participate, providing that a mask is worn at all times.
… then the concerned student will be isolated, be given a flu/Covid test and a mask to wear. The parent/ guardian will be notified by the Portal Guardian immediately to pick up the child as soon as possible and/or seek medical attention. The student will rest in the sick room in the meantime. If the student’s parents are not present in Hong Kong, please inform the Portal in writing prior to the camp and assign a guardian in Hong Kong who can act on their behalf during the camp for scenarios such as this.

… then the student will be given basic first-aid assistance, and/or a flu/Covid test and a mask to wear. The parent/ guardian will be notified, and has the option to pick the child up or let him/her rest in the sick room and have the situation re-evaluated in four hours’ time.
Those who have gone home during the camp may rejoin after recovering and with no more signs of fever.

Medicine Management Policy
If it is necessary for a student to take any medication during the camp (prescription or over-the-counter), the parent must notify the Portal in writing and read the policy below carefully.
Bringing Medication

All prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications must be in their original containers.

Doctor’s name, prescription date, dosage instructions.

OTC medications must be in original packaging with the student’s name.

Do not share medication with anyone under any circumstances
During the Program

Bring enough medication for the entire camp

Keep medications secure (e.g., locked in your drawer or suitcase)

Notify staff immediately if medication is lost or missing

Typhoon or Bad Weather Warnings Protocol

2) If typhoon No.8 or above, Black or Red Rainstorm is hoisted at any time during the camp…
3) If typhoon No.8 or above, Black or Red Rainstorm is hoisted on Check-0ut Day at 2pm…
… then the check-in time and date will be postponed to 9am the following morning after such warning is lowered. The camp will be condensed accordingly without any partial refund. An announcement will be made on our website as soon as possible.
ACTION/ IMPLICATION | THEN…
… then the camp will continue as scheduled with possible modifications to the offering*, except that outings or any outdoor activities will be substituted.
* At a minimum, the Portal Director and Portal Guardian, together with the resident Dormitory Officers will be on site.
… then the Summer Portal Gala will be cancelled or run as scheduled but not be open to the public. Dismissal and check-out will be between 2-4 hours after such warning is lowered. Should the warning remain in force past 6pm, check-out will be postponed to the following morning at 9am without extra charge. Announcements will be made on our website as soon as possible.
